Artist History
Besides having that rare thing called an "original sound" --as both a pianist and singer, Sue is also a prolific, award-winning Composer and Lyricist, as well as a gifted Arranger and Producer (and occasional violinist, bassist, guitarist and percussionist). Sue was 2nd Choice worldwide in the prestigious Thelonious Monk Composition Competition in 1998. That same year she took First Prize in the Billboard Song Contest, World Category. She was also a winner in JAZZIZ magazine's "Keyboards On Fire"! Talent Search judged by Bob James and Dave Brubeck. Sue has played all over the world from her NYC base, including last year's JVC Jazz Festival for the International Women in Jazz. |

Press Reviews
Michael Bourne, radio host of "Singers Unlimited," WBGO-FM, Newark, NJ: "an extraordinary talent...This whole album of Sue's songs goes to my head with delight. I've played it over and over, often backing up when a lick or a lyric leaps out at me. Like on the title song when she sings 'a fool is warned, but still the tiger bites'--cool, poetic, damn near Byronic about love's ever-appealing dangerousness." Singer JON LUCIEN on hearing Sue's CD: "I was absolutely floored. I'm really impressed with your work--your piano-playing, the arranging and singing. I love the way you use your voice with the harmonies, great harmonies! Everything is so wonderful." Piano legend HORACE SILVER wrote that Sue "writes a fine composition." Acclaimed jazz singer MARK MURPHY wrote, "Send me more tunes!" Brazilian superstar IVAN LINS said, "I have your song on my wall." Tenor titan JOHN STUBBLEFIELD called Sue "a genius!" Trombonist/arranger BARRY ROGERS called Sue "a major writer." Piano giant McCOY TYNER said Sue "should have her own record...a touch like Bill's [Evans]." "Impossible to categorize...a tremendous amount of musical influences...singing is beautiful and sensuous...meaninful lyrics." --Guitarist Mark Capon. "Sue Maskaleris is an incredible artist and composer, all the hot jazz latin piano licks along with a most versatile voice that covers latin, funk, scat, American jazz and a creative kind of vocal lines. Hats off to a musician who will find a way to move to the top!" Mathias Claus, jazz pianist from Germany."Material, voice and style are totally amazing: really great stuff!" Robert Landry. |
