Artist description
Oubliette: (Fr. Oublier forget) 'A secret dungeon, access to which was gained only through a trapdoor above; often having a secret pit below, into which the prisoner might be precipitated; forgotten like one in the oubliettes 1872' (Oxford English Dictionary)
....Holly has produced her most comprehensive and sophisticated work to date, the achingly beautiful album "Oubliette". Living in self-imposed seclusion for the past 2 years (and I mean total J.D. Salinger-style seclusion bar electric fence and meandering driveway), writing, recording and co-producing with the estimable David Summersgill (Flamingos/Jose Feliciano). This album is a testament to that intense hothouse of creativity and diligence, and definitely well worth the wait!
....One can be forgiven for thinking that Holly is a gentle figure of femininity...but her child-like features and button nose oppugn the occasional ferocity in her writing and use of voice. This is a resilient, solitary character, adept at tapping into the collective unconscious. There is something at once beguiling and challenging about her underworld. One gets the definite feeling that this woman has toughed it out most of her life, though has never found the need to resort to anodine sentimentality ... she's not asking to be understood ... she's trying to understand you!
....Un-like the name of her most recent creation, this is an artist you are highly unlikely to forget.
