Artist description
Every so often, kismet and coincidence unite two songwriters to produce something wholly unique. Such was the case when guitarist Kevin Parker met vocalist Alexander Levine in San Francisco during the spring of 1997. Having recently emigrated from South Florida, Alexander placed a musician's advert seeking others who shared his desire to inject substance, glamour and drama into the limp arm of pop and rock music. Kevin, a California native, had only days before formed a band with the very same agenda and, still needing a vocalist, answered Alexander's ad. Although the two came from very different musical and personal backgrounds, Alexander and Kevin found common ground in the songs they began composing together. As their music became more focused, the band splintered, and Alexander and Kevin decided to continue as a duo. Thus Mink SF was born. Bringing guest musicians into the fold as needed, Mink SF has only just begun to realize their vision with the completion of their first, eponymous, 3-song EP. From "Detour"'s apocalyptic pop attack to "Falling Apart"'s doomed romantic majesty and "Plastic World"'s high-energy thrill, Mink SF proudly rails against popular music's current malaise. Even when performing in the San Francisco Bay Area armed only with Kevin's acoustic guitar and Alexander's vocals, Mink SF's sound is clearly and uniquely theirs. The future is suddenly sounding very plush indeed. |
