Artist History
Wood-N-Steel was formed in in 1979 by Joe Barbieri, Tony Antinoro, and David Comtois. The band name came from their friend, Mike Saunders. (You know, wooden bodies, steel strings...) The trio started as a result of the breakup of the band "Condor" in the spring of 1977. There were some rehearsals as a trio and a handfull of gigs were played. But mostly, Joe and Tony played as a duo only. David went to Arizona in December of 1978 and returned to the Lowell area in February of 1980. The three decided that it was time to seriously look at the possibilities of reforming the trio. Rehearsals began and in April of 1980, Wood-N-Steel played their first gig (technically an audition) at the Dubliner Pub in Lowell, MA. They were hired to perform (on a trial basis) on the following Sunday and Monday. Realizing that they needed more "up" material, they quickly put together the tunes they knew. And as a result, Wood-N-Steel would appear every Sunday and Monday at the Dubliner until their break up in 1983. (For a while after, any band with a combination of the three would find them there on weekends as well as Sunday and Monday. |
