Artist description Short-haired socialists with guitars have been responsible for some of the catchiest, sharpest rock'n'roll of the past 40 years: the Who, the Jam, the Clash, the Housemartins. From the red-brick South Side of St. Louis come the Red Squares, who keep this tradition growing while many of their peers muddle through bland skate-punk, sterile electronica and tuneless "extreme rock."Past their punk years, not quite mods, these four young men still believe that there are people like them: people who appreciate book smarts as well as pop smarts. Active on the St. Louis left-wing scene, the Red Squares keep their politics on an everyday level, but with one eye always on the big bad world. They sing about the aches and frustrations of the wage-earning life, and the joys of being in love or getting a taste of revenge; socialist love songs and heartbroken anthems.
