    Artist description
OFFICIAL OVERLAP Website!! Overlap is a rock band that uses roots arrangements to relay their lyrical rants. The framework of the music is conjured primarily by guitarist and vocalist Rob Jones. His cast of supporting and rebeling musicians add a new dimension to each song; one may even say that their is an "overlap" of style between the artists, tastefully complementing one another to create a unique musical ambience. Others may not say a thing.....

    Artist History
OVERLAP manifested from the coffehouses and dank corners of New Brunswicktown when local minstrel Rob Jones resumed his musical experiments with high school friend and percussionist David Smela. After extensive gigging throughout the Tri-state area, the band released their first CD in 99. Currently the band is creating their next album as well as releasing songs on this site as well as on their own award winning website www.chokingbliss.com. Drop them a line sometime and listen to other artists on their label.

November 19, 1999 Home News and Tribune On The Road * by Chris Jordan GETTING THE WORD OUT--Overlap wants to keep you posted Chances are you've seen Rob Jones leering around in New Brunswick. No, not in person, but leering from the posted show fliers for his band Overlap. One such flier featured Jones as the Devil and another depicted Jones spanking a woman. "It's important to keep the people informed," Jones said. Indeed, Jones has a number of activities other activities - other than spanking - for which he's built a high profile in New Brunswick. The first and foremost is his progressive rock band OVERLAP, which is creatively fueled by Jones' unique vision. "We like to keep the shows interesting," Jones said. "It is entertainment as much as it is art. You have to present it in a form so people will become engaged." That means there is plenty of Jones' droll and dry wit during the shows. As for the music, it's an adventurous, rhythmically tight, 1960's prog-rock experience that would make Sid Barret smile. The band's - also David Thomas Smela, drums, Kate Hering, guitar, and Jeff Wiener, Bass, [and now including Chris Rydstram, percussion and Ben Chapman on sax] - latest CD, the self-titled "Overlap," finds the unit rocking a bit more directly than on previous releases. There's less musical exploration "Overlap." [???????????????] Jones and Smela met as students at East Brunswick High School more than 10 years ago. The pair founded the band Acoustic Grooves earlier in the decade, before forming Overlap. The fans can enjoy Overlap tomorrow at Doll's Place. Also, Jones head the free Zen meditation sessions, 8PM Wednsdays, at the George Street Co-Op on Morris St. in New Brunswick. He is also the MC for the Court Tavern's Open Mic Nights, 10PM every Wednsday. "I play to get it going, and if there's a lull," said Jones of the open mic nights, "the whole experience is tainted by Rob Jones. "February 9, 2000 The Aquarian Weekly Jersey Talk * by Al Muzer OVERLAP/Self Titled CD Flaunting intelligent lyrics, driven riffs, decent [very strong] song writing, and an ability to shift smoothly from soaring radio pop to Dead-like funk grooves, grunge fueled Hootie-hooks, reggae-fied frat skank, a soulful percussion drift, and a Cream-like fuzz ( on the outstanding "Replacement") - there's promise and potential in the words and music of vocalist/guitarist Rob Jones.
