Artist History
muzzleLoader theBio:
“I suppose we have to register you as a Lethal Weapon.”
Danny Glover – Lethal Weapon.
Trey Creager: Les Paul Guitars
Lyle aka Mercus Alkus: Voice and Words
Daren Burns: Basses, upright basses
Yasha Filisov: Drums & Percussion
1999: muzzleLoader came cocked. Principalis telum. Venues across Southern California pulsed and writhed to the sawtooth gnarl of Trey’s guitar, coupled with the cerebral snarl of Merkus Alkus. Not for the squeamish; not for the stupid; not for the innocent; not for the guilty… four disparate rock outlaws riding the tail of the nineties like a whiplash cyanide pill.
2000: muzzleLoader theAlbum The Not So Secret Lies Of Bobby Scorpio.
“Brash, guitar-heavy rock with distorted low-end riffs spilling out beneath grungy vocal melodies. Tight and confident.” Will Y Listen.com
2001: muzzleLoader armed & ready. Primary weapon. No Latin required.
muzzleLoader theTale:
theStory soFar:
July 1764:
Merkus Alkus hanged as a witch in London for writing backwards and singing showtunes. He swears to return as muzzleLoader.
March 1995:
Merkus returns as muzzleLoader.
April 1995:
muzzleLoader theBand birthed. In a songwriting experiment gone horribly right, Trey and Merkus attempted closing down Oklahoma’s finest bars and basements. Many establishments did, in fact, close down soon after muzzleLoader’s appearances – coincidence? (with one raised eyebrow) or…
deep teal chords (fade to black)…
From there, the legend could only grow weirder, and Trey and Merkus soon found themselves infamous in their hometown of Sapulpa.
June 1995:
Demo produced: Love Puddle, which featured a cover photo of a fan letter drenched in…love puddle. (Allegations that Merkus Alkus was responsible for drenching the letter have been completely unfounded.)
Meanwhile, muzzleLoader stretched its formative limbs, playing hither and thither, growing in musical strength and hideous kinky…
Late-1995:
In a daring move to Southern California, Trey and Merkus recruit like-minded eel-killers for new muzzleLoader lineup: Paul Cristiano on bass and Yasha Filisov on drums. Orange County to Ventura (and every bit of Los Angeles in between) rocked with the intensity of rock’s new weapon of crass destruction.
1997-1998:
muzzleLoader disband due to the inevitable “interpersonal problems”; off the road for a year, until the coalescing ectoplasmic essences could stand the suspense no longer and muzzleLoader was re-tooled, Trey, Merkus and Yasha adding Daren Burns as bassist, firing mechanism infurio.
1999:
The maelstrom hit Southern California again – this time ‘round, they embody their graven image in fantastic laser-plastic: muzzleLoader’s self-produced full-length CD, The Not So Secret Lies Of Bobby Scorpio, was completed in 2000, amidst thousands of pinups of Laetitia Casta (nude mostly).
Engineered and co-Produced by Marty Beal, whose work with Miles and Stewart Copeland negates the need to name-drop any further.
2000:
While the live shows continue, the CD is distributed to all and sundry who stand for something in this cold, fool world: Merkus palms the muzzleLoader CD to Rick Rubin (oooh!), Gene Simmons (ahhh!), Lemmy Kilmister (euurw!), and hot chicks (mmm!).
Merkus also gives the Evil Eye to the diminutive sorcerer Ronnie James Dio in a restaurant, who, ironically, nearly fell out of his chair in a rainbow shock.

“muzzleLoader…four artists who have discovered magic in the past and used it to mold a modern sound of their own… The CD is a triumph of those who appreciate the joys of stripped down and largely uncluttered hard rock - think of a more modern version of AC/DC or the Cult.” Robert Kinsler, Orange County Register.
2001:
Uncompromising, oiled for action, check out muzzleLoader’s website for their upcoming sweat-&-bullets gigs and other tawdry activities: www.muzzleLoader.org
Future Plans:
Push for a major label’s support;
Continue to write music with flesh-burning integrity;
Meet with Latitia Casta (nude mostly).
