Artist History
Delphinium are Justin Johnsen and Anji Bee,
who made music, DJ'd radio shows and created
fanzines together throughout the 90's.
Beginning as a school recording project at
Long Beach City College in 1991, Johnsen and Bee
went through many changes to become
Delphinium. Originally coming together for
Justin's solo project, Ravensong (as well as
Anji's fanzine, "Substitution,") their
collaboration slowly morphed into the musical
duet, Datura, with which they made a name
for themselves in the underground industrial-
goth scene of Long Beach and surrounding
Orange County areas. Always eager to explore
new ideas, the two became DJs at the
notoriously avante garde college radio station,
KUCI 88.9 fm (in Irvine, California) where they
were exposed to many new musical ideas
and partnerships. In the mid 90's Datura began
to take a back seat to a plethora of smaller side
projects of a more experimental nature, as
well as their heavy involvement in the radio
station itself, over the following few years.
Defunct since 1997, the band is offering a DAM
CD with a combination of 24, 16, 8 and 4 track
recordings under the recently adopted name,
Delphinium. |

Press Reviews
"Take a walk through a land where darkly
sensual vocals and heart rending melodies
dance hand in hand under a moonlit sky.
Delphinium combine equal parts beauty and
passion to create beautiful, otherworldy
music that will haunt your dreams. Anji and
Justin's imprint will be left on your heart for
some time... The world needs more bands
like Delphinium!" -- Rik, of The Violet Collective ? "Dreamy ethereal female vocals, moderately eerie. This ["Nightwalk"] is a wonderful track from a new band who I see a lot of potential in. Fans of This Ascension, Love Spirals Downwards, or Cocteau Twins take note!" - The Funeral Party |
