Artist description
Gretchen's sound is guitar based modern rock, sweetened by female lead vocals. Some have described them as a heavy No Doubt. Others have said their sound lies between Plumb & Verucca Salt. While the jury may be out on the sound, the verdict has been delivered as to what the band is all about. Gretchen, with their strong Christian world view, is part of a new revolution in music that is confronting both the mainstream and Christian markets. |

Press Reviews
Gretchen's second album rocks with forceful intensity. Travis Wyrick's well-balanced production yields a churning inferno of power chords, cold steel bass, and hammering drums, swirling around beauty queen Mia Richards' siren vocals firing out lyrics that demand attention. Joining the ranks of singing blondes, Mia's voice is distinctive, yet at times sounds a bit like Madonna, Gwen Stefani or Cyndi Lauper. Together the band moves with the symmetry of a fighter jet squadron. Gretchen won top honors at GMA's Summer Jam Contest last year with songs that address believers and unbelievers alike. Hot numbers include "Diamonds," a compelling anthem of God's love ("I will be the reason that you laugh, the reason that you cry/ I'll take your tears & turn them all to diamonds..."). "Inclined" is a beautiful plaintive cry reminiscent of, strangely enough, Jamie Owens-Collins that gleams like a sapphire in the midst of all the black leather and chrome. A sharp-as-a-razor cover of Billy Idol's "White Wedding" adds to the mystique. Metal and Gothic fans will love this. ---CHRISTIAN MUSIC RETAILER MAGAZINE
