Artist description
Soul Scythe is the solo project of poet/lyricist/programmer/guitarist Richard Marens. Soul Scythe centers itself in the origins of the darkwave, industrial, gothic, and metal genres...but is not confined exclusively to them. Sporting an equal set of organic and mechanic/electronic instruments, Soul Scythe delivers a unique blend of ethereal and industrial soundscapes. This solo project is a studio only work and is recorded almost exclusively at Marens' home studio- The Lair. Every single vocal song takes its lyrical inspiration from the poetry of Richard Marens- thus matching the dense and layered sound with deep and emotional lyrics. Soul Scythe is not intended to be music for the masses...few will find the depressing poetry and the dark ensemble to fit their mood, but for those who do get what Soul Scythe tries to accomplish- I hope to not dissapoint... |

Press Reviews
"Takes heavily from the 80s- but in a good way. It gets that cold, mechanical menace that bands like Depeche Mode did so well, and adds a more aggressive Front 242 groove to the sampling. The rhythm is danceworthy, and the vocal delivery has the chilling effect that was no doubt intended. All in all, I'd say it achieves what it sets out to." - garageband.com |
