Here's what the INDUSTRY TRADES have to say: "Like classics that came before it, the consistent elements of strong songwriting, musicianship, and heart, give this new band an energy and sound all its own..." --Shelly Maas, RollingStone.com****** "The voice of kd Lang, the guitar of Carlos Santana...Add Pope Jane to the list. Soaring vocals smoothly sung certainly triggered the goosebumps, but the varied and multi-layered rhythms, expertly provided by a deceptively basic combo of bass, drums, and guitar, ensured they remained. (Phew!) Quite simply, Pope Jane is the whole package. Definately a band to look out for." --Justine Longmore, RollingStone.com, UK ******--------And here's what the SHOW PROMOTERS have to say: "I caught their set and they are phe nominal! I knew I would like them after hearing their CD, but Pope Jane is really, really amazing! I can see them getting signed, real soon." --Stephanie Redmond, Marketing Coordinator, Orange Blossom Music Festival ******"Hide Me From The Moon was one o f the highest scoring CD's by our RockrGrl Judging Committee. We are both honored and excited to have Pope Jane at the RockrGrl Conference 2000 in Seattle!" --Holly Figueroa, IndieGrrl Founder ****** "Pope Jane is even better live than on the CD! Those la d ies have such an incredible live performance, and there is only three of them, to make such a big sound!" --Dana Schmedling, Talent Coordinator, ZooGrass Music Festival, Montana****** ------TIDBITS------ Has someone reminded you lately that an ant can l ift 30 times its own bodyweight? If they did, it was probably Pope Jane. This all-female pop three-piece based in the Big Sky Country of Montana, who has declined two major label offers due to poorcontract structure, has completely taken their region, sel ling out shows wherever they go. Pope Jane is being lauded by both indie and major industry ears everywhere as intelligient, unique, and ingenious. ******* "Pope Jane could potentially become a big success. Three talented musicians, a bunch of well-cr afted, radio-ready pop songs and lyrics listeners can relate to?what else could you ask for?" - Guitar Digest *******"I LOVE Pope Jane! They are REALLY great!" --Barry Knittel, President, AEI Music Network INC, Worldwide ********"The band also demonstrates a good ability of diverse song styles and they run from rock to a more folk-ish style. It's good to see a band not dependent on trying to out-rock every other band and put some time into their song writing and performance, as Pope Jane certainly have." --hE ARd Magazine, Australia ---------PERFORMANCE AND RADIO-------- Pope Jane has been the featured requested opener for the likes of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart, and an array of other national acts. Artist History
BAND BIO---DANIELLE EGNEW, LEAD VOCALS, GUITARS, KEYS*****Danielle hails from Billings, Montana, but spent six years out in Seattle, recording and producing as a signed artist on Indie label Whatever Wreckards. She is on the books as having one of the mo st amazingly versatile and incredible voices around, sending chills up the spine of even the most staunch skeptics. Her song catalog is huge. It is a regular occurrence that publishing companies are attempting to purchase her catalog, due to the vast num b er of estimated hits. But for now, itsreserved for Pope Jane. And though she is a pop / rock diva, she has composed and arranged tunes thathave been recorded by the likes of country music god Alan Jackson. Her writings have been submitted to other notab le s such as Robert Redford, for his film "The Horse Whisperer", and country artists Lila McCann, Linda Davis, Chris Ledoux, and Daryl Singletary. Danielle is highly lauded for her work as an innovative and cutting edge producer and writer. She has produce d a rtists in the genres of AAA, pop, rock, alternative, country, R&B, Christian Contemporary, punk, blues, techno, ambient, trance, and industrial. Danielle has underscored films, plays, and TV... her most recent broadcast musical compositions being aire d ni ghtly on the Adventure Television Network. Her guitar playing style has been lauded as highlyunique, layering upper voicings to create a rich and wide sound canvas. Danielle will play any instruments placed in front of her and does so quite well, and loves to dwell in the MIDI universe. She also makes excellent spaghetti sauce. Danielle likes Wilcoxin's Moosetracks IceCream. *****KRISTEN COYNER, DRUMS AND BACKING VOCALS**** Kristen comes to the group from Bend, Oregon, where, since she was 10, she s pent a vast amount of time playing vintage Pearl drums in the loft of her family's barn. Kristen is scary smart, and she has developed this playing style that is insanely musical for drum applications. Thusly, she is well known for the musicality of her drum p laying. Her flow and her texture are Kristen's trademark, creating a rhythmic bed underneath the belly of Pope Jane that is the true foundation...with breathing room. Sometimes heavy handed, sometimes barely whispering, Kristen truly is a drummer's drumme r. Kristen also plays piano and guitar, and writes like it's going out of style. Kristen is a graduate of the Art Institute of Seattle, where she majored in music and video business. Prior to Pope Jane, she pounded skins in a number of alternative Northwes t bands. Kristen can bake a turkey with that crispy skin better than Betty Crocker. Kristen likes Tiramisu. *****HOLLY JERKE, BASS AND BACKIGN VOCALS***** Holly is from a great big town of 800 people called Terry, Montana.Holly is scary, because she was a child piano prodigy, and blows a Dixieland trumpet like no one else's business. Actually, she plays anything she feels like, simply after holding it for a little while. She is one of those amazing people that are a musician's musician. Holly pl ays the very same Dingwall bass that was played by greats, such as Stanley Clark, in the national bass showdown. Holly's very bass won the national showdown in the five string category. Holly is well known for her unique and musical playing style that sea mlessly melds groove with intriguing, and often difficult to duplicate, melodic passages. No one milks a pocket while tossing in a lead line like Holly does. For years, she was behind racks of R&B keyboards, so the groove has been pounded clear into her s inus cavities. She has written many tunes, some peppering the Pope Jane landscape, some more in the eerie category. Watching Holly play the bass is very much like French kissing afirecracker. And she makes an incredible salad with a billion gree ns in it. Holly likes sheetcake, the whole thing. – |

Press Reviews
The scary truth is, the awesome magnitude of Pope Jane's infectious, intoxicating talent will indisputedly place them in the same category as such cultural icons as Fleetwood Mac, Heart, Blondie, and dare I say it-- The Beatles. Whatever "it" is, Pope Jan e has tons of IT. -John Potter, Billings Gazette. ******* "Hide me From The Moon is amazing, I've put it into regular rotation...I'm excited about the release and for the band." - Scotty Austin, DJ, Y-93 FM, Billings, MT. The gorgeous harmonies, so won d erfully evident on "The One," at times evoke images of the Indigo Girls and at other times you'd swear you were hearing Ann and Nancy Wilson of the popular Seattle group of the 70's called Heart (remember them?) -Les Reynolds, Indie-Music.com.******** T he re's some truly exceptional songs here, mostly of a softer nature, following in the footsteps outlaid by opener "Lay Down Your Life" & "The One", while "Duality" takes a somewhat harder line than some of the others here, countered by the closing number "A re You Happy". The best thing on the album is the brilliant centrepiece "Kaycee's Song", which features the band's best performance, with an amazing set of acoustic guitar, fabulous vocals & a superb bassline throughout the track. This is an album tha t wi ll keep you transfixed throughout it's remarkable length & fans of artists like Ani DiFranco & Indigo Girls will certainly find a lot to enjoy here. -Terry Allen, hEARD Magazine, Australiaˇ |
