Artist History
Formed in the summer of 1995 by Smith, Schmidt, Nick Hill and Eric Hopf, MOLOTOV CHILDREN was is a reaction to oppressive traditional right wing suburban society. The band auditioned several drummers and hired Drew Clark after discovering similar heavy music tastes. The members, angry towards the lack of non-'alternative'/grunge groups in the local music scene, formed Molotov Children. Molotov Children pay tribute to favorites such as Disrupt, Anal Cunt, and Brutal Truth, by incorporating hardcore punk elements into a mix of death/thrash/grind, meshed with social frustration inspired lyrics. Band difficulties occurred in Jan. 1996 and band member bassist Hopf was replaced with Jesse Wilson. In Feb. of 1996, the band recorded a track ("Fashionable Absurdity") for the upcoming Stratford compilation, "The Climb Compilation". This later led to the recording of the band's debut demo, "Failure to Cope With Reality". "Failure..." was a summative expression of the hostility appropriated by a group of social outcasts, targeting macho attitudes, absurd trendiness, petty violence, and loss of musical integrity. Molotov, in March of 1996, disappointed by the lack of unity in the local scene, asked fellow band Terpic Stick if they were interested in releasing a split demo. The demo was released on June 29th, featuring 4 new songs, a re-recording of the "Failure" demo, and 2 live songs, as well as 6 tracks of Terpic Stick's uncompromising trippy bass rock. |
