Artist History
Cat is a hard-rocking female guitarist originally from Ohio. She started out first on the trumpet at age 6, took up the guitar at age 12, and began playing in bands just a few months later. Cat started out playing lead in all-male bands and later mostly all-male bands which toured most of the US, opening for many major acts and doing extensive club work. One of these bands worked with artists like Percy Sledge and Donna Fargo. She then moved to Toronto where she joined the successful all-girl band "Apple Viper" who appeared on TV, placed in several competitions, recorded, and toured Ontario and Manitoba. Now residing in Sacramento where she works at a TV station. Cat released a solo CD "Guitar Play" in early 2000 which she recorded in her home digital recording studio. She wrote all the songs and played every instrument except the drums. This music features the guitar and some trumpet. Some people don't like the trumpet mix, but others love it! The instrumentals are sort of what might happen if Jeff Beck and Joe Satriani met Herp Alpert and the vocal songs are like Foreigner met AC/DC! She has just released a second all-instrumental CD "How Rude!" also with music in the Jeff Beck, Satriani, Hoey vein. |

CAT ROOD "How Rude!" (Rudecat Productions) by Jonathan Mariante Cat Rood (not to be confused with The Great Kat, Kittie, or any otherband with a feline related name) is a female axe slinger, and she hasjust released this album of instrumental guitar rock. She playedeverything on here except the drums (those were handled byAlesis SR 16, a drum machine, I presume), and also wrote all thesongs, and produced and mixed the album. She is quite a good guitarplayer, her style in the vein of Satriani/Vai/Eric Johnson, with a touchof Bon Jovi/Richie Sambora. She could also be compared to LitaFord-after all, she's a cute, blonde, talented guitar player, just likeLita. Her style, however, is also influenced by Ford's. There are somebouncy rockers on the album ("Oh My!", "I Don't Mind", "The Check Is InThe Mail", "Frantic", and "Jig-gy"), as well as some slower tunes, like"Tragic", "Piece", and "The Battle Is Not Lost". The last song, "TheLong Wait", is an interesting number. It starts off slow, with somefolksy, acoustic guitar, then gets going, and becomes a perky tune withsome funky bass. Cat has certainly turned out a worthy effort here. Nodoubt, she is talented, and can certainly play! She kicks some booty onthe guitar! Not only that, but making her own album, and doingeverything on it is no mean achievement, either. Guitar fans and playersshould check this out. Let Cat get her musical claws into you! You mightlearn a few tricks from her! Anyone who thinks girls can't jam withthe best of them (are there REALLY still people out there who thinkthat?!) will change their minds when they hear this album!
