Artist History
In October of '98 Jonathan Hewitt (vocals) met Martin Pavely (guitar) while at university. They immediately set to work on forming a band, by seeking help from the university live music society. After trying out several drummers they came across Kieran Ilse (drums.) All three musicians instantly hit it off. With a lack of equipment, practice space, and most importantly a bass player the 3 decided to take a while off from performing until a bass player was found although they started writing and recording material in April '99. The following month a friend put the 3 in touch with a bass player named Justin Nero, he was given an informal interview which seemed too good to be true. Justin was the 4th and final member of the still nameless band. The band decided to take a break for the summer and regroup in early October to start gigging, writing and recording. Jonathan had a clear image of style and sound that the band should meet which he came to after many years as both lead vocalist and guitars with a Peterborough based band named Mirelle. After toying with several names the band came up with Wiretap, which is an FBI slang word for telephone surveillance. Wiretap had a dream start in their first gig, they won a round of battle of the bands in The Horn venue, St Albans. Martin Pavely has now left the band, Jonathan Hewitt has taken over guitar duties until a more permanent solution is found. |
