Artist History
This may seem" Spinal Tap-ish", but our trip to this musical playground started years ago...sixteen years. ago to be exact. Bil and I were 12 years old and went to school together. Actually, we discovered after looking at our first grade class pictures, that we we're in the same class then also, but neither one of us remembers it. Anyway, in middle school we became best friends, mostly due to the fact that we had two things in common. We were both Christians, and we also shared an interest in all toys connected to "Star Wars". (Some of the toys regrettably met their demise as a result of an experiment with an aerosol can and a cigarette lighter). I could tell so many tales of mischief involving the two of us, but I won't. Just in case we get famous, I'll save those for the book. We weren't too far along in our friendship before we discovered yet another shared fascination, music. Bil's family was very musical and had a history of being some what successful at it. His oldest sister, Debbie, toured professionally as a country singer for 10 years and even won first place in a contest held at the Grand Ole Opry. His brother, Ward, was a phenomenal pedal steel guitar player who had played behind such performers as Eddie Rabbit. So, along with other family members they had formed a group called "Sweet Spirit". So, 12 year old Bil was learning to play the bass guitar and joining the band. Only problem was, they didn't have a drummer - guess what I became! We played in Sweet Spirit for 7 years. Under the strict tutelage of Ward, ( the steel guitarist),we learned the invaluable fundamentals of song arrangement and the extreme importance of being" tight" musicians. By this time Bil and I were no longer best friends, we were brothers. Unfortunately though, we got split up for a little while. I spent a brief time in the Army and he went off to college. During this time, he formed a band called "Dig Hay Zoose" and almost immediately landed a record contract with Broken Records, a label operated out of L.A. Meanwhile, my creativity could no longer be stifled by the limitations of being a drummer, so I switched to guitar. My first band as a guitarist/song writer was simply titled "Correct Change". This basically became "guitar boot camp" for me and also my first experience working with a drummer. This is where the extremely talented Paul Pace Jr. comes into the picture. Paul has been playing fourteen years himself, for such groups as "In your head", "Sovereign", "Many Waters", and Kevin Clay". He and I played in Correct Change together for three years before the band split up. This was hard for us because we too had become more like brothers than friends. So, he went to Nashville with his new group "Many Waters" and I joined...guess who? Dig Hay Zoose (surprise, surprise). So, that's how we all met. Bands broke up, a certain drummer moved back, and we became the Silvermen! A band of brothers, with our record contract and a fun, crazy twist on Rock-N-Roll. |
