Artist description
The Modias Project is the story of a scientist who goes mad trying to understand what truly cannot be understood among humans; the creative spirit. It begins with an old man watching a sunset and suddenly being flooded with the memory of a young woman dying and the face of a man of whom he is terribly afraid. In the song “Steps,” there is young man named Johnny who claims to be uninspired by the world, so he sets out to find out exactly what makes people inspired in order to make it accessible to everyone. One night, he comes upon a man named Billy playing in a band in a small club. He talks to Billy and tells him he is a big time record producer. He gives him a business card and tells him to meet him that night to talk about a record contract. When Billy comes to his house, he confronts Modias, telling him that his music cannot be bought at any price. At the height of his emotional speech, Billy is killed for the purpose of Modias’s scientific experimentation on the creative mind. This concludes the first part of the story. |

Artist History
The reason this album was made is partly to state what might happen if we continue to let technology shelter us from the natural world from which we came, which we are in the process of destroying now. It is also to say that the creative spirit is one of the most precious things we as people can possess. About a year before this album was recorded, one of the best friends I've ever had in my life, John Gilman, killed himself. This album is mainly for him. He helped me a lot with this project, and I know he would have wanted to see it finished. Now that he's gone, I can't help but think that he's a lot like Modias; a genious who could not understand something in himself. |
