Artist description
Since its inception in 1999, the Lobsterboy Quintet has dedicated itself to exploring 20th century American music and adding its unique voice to this art form. Drawing on early Jazz, Ragtime, and other distinctly American musics, the group presents material that is both alive in spirit and rooted in history. Taking their cue from innovators such as Berlin, Ellington, and Mingus, the Lobsterboy Quintet relates tales of mystery, love, and death through their original compositions and musical performances. |

Press Reviews
"With their unusual take on the traditional, the Lobsterboy Quintet spans the gap between bands like the (Squirrel Nut) Zippers and the Chicken Wire Gang" "They evoke the nighttime mood of the circus train of yesteryear, slightly menacing, masquerading under the musical greasepaint-smile of the leering clowns."
