Artist History
Massimo DeAngelis is an extremely gifted musician, who plays in many different styles. Born in Rome, Italy, a self taught musician, he started playing drums at the age of 12. At 17 he landed his first professional gig in New York with the acclaimed Italian singer; Tony Astarita. And a year later he performed at the Jazz club "40 Thieves" in Hamilton Bermuda with a Bermuddian Jazz band for 6 months. Back in Rome, Massimo formed a Guitar trio and performed in various clubs in the capitol. He also performed for movie scores, studio work and radio broadcasts. In 1980 Massimo joined "I Percussionisti di Roma", an all percussion ensemble (6 players), that performed pieces written for percussion only, (John Cage, Eggar Varese, Charles Chavez, William Kraft, Etc...). Also between 79-84 Massimo returned to Bermuda and later played in Florida with his jazz quartet for several months. Before retuning to Itlay, Massimo joined the R&B showband Terry Johnson & the Flamingos", and toured East and Central America for 1 year. In 1992, Massimo strted to compose on a regular basis, putting together various groups with whom he performed and recorded. Massimo describes his music and drumming style as "...an attempt to change things around, and to bring the listener's awareness to a higher level". |
