Artist History
One of Norways hottest live acts. Debut album; "Jetlagged in Jetland" released late in 2000 by Electra.
Someone called Jetsurfers "a Norwegian no-depression band". But that is not the whole truth, because the band’s mixture of rock & roll and alternative country is too eclectic to be easily categorized. Their music is an interesting blend of heavenly and diabolical extremities. Jetsurfers have been compared to Jason & The Scorchers, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and Georgia Satellites by the Norwegian press, and that may not be a total miss.
The band was formed in the summer of ‘98, and made its first public performance in February ‘99. Jetsurfers’ first official release: "Jetsurfers - Saloon E.P. " was released as a limited edition CD (750 copies) in June ‘99 by the Norwegian independent label Coco Pelli Records. Songs from this CD have been frequently aired on radio stations all over Norway. During a string of live dates during 1999, Jetsurfers accomplished at least two things: 1. The "Jetsurfers - Saloon E.P. " sold out. 2. The band gained a reputation as one of Norway’s greatest live acts.
November 1999 saw the release of the CD-single "Next Of Kin". Once again Jetsurfers earned a fair amount of airplay, and the CD-single earned many great reviews from the Norwegian press. Among the many gigs the band did to follow this release, was a dozen acoustic performances in jails and prisons in the southern part of Norway. "Next Of Kin" was released by MTG-Productions, but the band experienced it was easier to sell CD’s at gigs than through Sony Music Norway’s distribution.
Grammofon AS Electra did release Jetsurfers’ first full-length album late 2000. The album is titled "Jetlagged in Jetland", and contains ten fabulous new recordings, including great cover-versions of Dylan’s "One Too Many Mornings" and a punky "Green Green Grass Of Home.
The boys in the band have previously traveled the rough Norwegian roads up and down with various musical constellations, and influences mentioned in a non-priority order could be: Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Johnny Cash, Ramones and Steve Earle.
