Press Reviews
By Ray Grundy...Metro Country UK...Nashville recording artists Crossfire are a four-part harmony, Country/Rockabilly band, based in Cape Girardeau, Mo. where they won the City of Roses Music Festival Award for the best Country Band in 1998 and 1999. They recorded their first CD in Nashville Tn, entitled "Build A Better Fire" and from it they have had two tracks in the Top lO European Independent Labels chart including the title track. The band consists of, Jason Blanchard (lead guitar, lead vocals), Jason Keesee (rhvthm guitar, vocals), Clyde Pinnon (drums, vocals) and David Sowers bass, vocals) and they are looking forward to an upcoming tour of Europe. The set starts with the title track from their album "Build A Better Fire". I remember hearing this song when it was released on the Hotdisc and being absolutely knocked out by the band's superb harmony's and the soaring vocals of Jason Blanchard. This is a great song to introduce the band with, as it leaves you eager to hear more. When I last reviewed the next track "As Lonesome As It Gets" after it was released on the Hotdisc, I stated that I wasn't as impressed as I had been with their previous release. I must admit though that this is one of those songs that grow on you, and while I still don't think it is as good as the last, I certainly appreciate it a lot better after a few more listens. "Nothin But The Blame" is another song that shows off the bands superb harmony's once again, while "Drivin' Me Out Of Her Mind" reached #15 in the European Independent labels charts, but for me, deserved to have done a lot better. "Perfect" is an acoustic love ballad, with some great mandolin and dobro licks accompanying their once again, superb harmony's. This is the only song in the set written by the band, but after listening to this, I think they should certainly be writing more.Excellent! Karen Staley and Bob Di Piero are the writers of the next track "Ain't Love Grand". A modern country tune with a funky beat, before the set close with another ballad, "All Seems Gone", a story of lost love, written by Richard Sexton, who also wrote the opening track of this set. When it comes to male harmony bands, Crossfire have proved that they are up there with the best of them. Get hold of a copy of this album and take a listen, then go and see them when they come over on tour. You won't be dissapointed.See you there! |
