Artist History
Lee Micallef, Michelle Chapman and Shelly Lankford went on to form Blue Nimbus from a song that Lee had wrote a year earlier. The name is a potent statement of the band. Dark hues of keyboards and heavy guitar work along with a driving rhythm section and low vocals gave the band a sound that many labeled 'industrial' or 'gothic' which the band was neither. In December '89 Blue Nimbus began recording their debut album "Jaded". The band gave one of the new songs "High Insight" for inclusion on an industrial based CD titled "Industrial Chaos". Blue Nimbus gave their first show in March 1990 and played various clubs throughout the midwest including Chicago, Columbus, Grand Rapids, Lansing and Cleveland. In 1991, the Nimbus juggernaut rolled on into some high profile shows such as the "Sonic Blur" concert sponsored by 89X at the Latin Quarter. A certain well known act Kid Rock also played that same show. The band also presented itself in the television medium appearing on various cable shows in Michigan and doing radio interviews. "Jaded" was released as an LP on the Chaos Label in April 1991. The album contained 10 songs written by Lee Micallef. The album generated interest for the band at hundreds of college radio stations and made top 10 lists all over the world including Japan, England, Poland. In fall 1991, Blue Nimbus lent a song for the next compilation they were invited to be on. The song "One That Got Away" became a highlight on "A Fist Full Of Chaos" featuring various Detroit based acts on the Chaos label. The CD release party was held February 1992 at St Andrews Hall and the band gave a riveting performance. The rest of 1992 found Blue Nimbus performing and beginning to work on the follow up to "Jaded". One of the first songs completed was called "I'm Not Sorry" which later ended up on another compilation they appeared on. Blue Nimbus gave their final performance in April 1994. All members of the band continue to perform, Lee and Shelly work together still and Michelle has her new band in Florida named 3Sic7's. |
