Artist History
One could imagine what a singer/songwriter's first album would sound like if he had never stepped foot in a studio before. Especially if he produced it himself. Well, much to the amazement of leading indie-critics, Scott Meldrum turned out a self-produced, debut effort to rival major label releases. His understated, alterna-pop songs captured the industry and music public alike. At 22, Scott began writing melodies for a band called Menagerie. This five piece modern rock ensemble was one of Southern California's most exciting local bands. During his time with Menagerie, he began to hone the craft of songwriting. After leaving such a noted band, one could have considered Scott all but a memory of the early nineties. But he and his music were too strong to just fade away. After a five year hiatus, Scott returned in February, 99 with a vengeance. His sparsely arranged pop anthems (in the vein of Crowded House, Del Amitri, and Chris Isaak) soon became the favorite among artists, critics and fans around the world. With an amazing 500,000 downloads, a solid run at College Radio and a fanbase in the thousands, Scott has parlayed his success and experience when he stepped into the studio to record his follow-up to "Crush". Now nearly complete, "Shaping Ashes" (due November, 2003) will mark Scott's sophmore effort and an even bigger explosion onto the music scene. |
