Artist description PHILIA writes very different and very original music. Their songs range from rock, to pretty pop, to deep groove, to folk noise, using extreme dynamics such as: upbeats, downbeats, strong builds, quiet breaks, as well as many mood changes and hard, heavy, powerful emotions to drive their songs into the listener. PHILIA draws on their vast canyon of musical influences and inspirations to produce a great hybrid of songs and performances that are completely unique and forever pushing the musical envelope. PHILIA is a 4-piece rock band that has been playing since 1996, originating from Corpus Christi, Texas. In 1998 the group self-released a demo CD which was showcased on some college and commercial radio stations in Texas and other states such as Louisiana and Iowa. PHILIA was charted on Album Network in 1999, receiving thousands of spins on local radio and grabbing the attention of major labels. PHILIA’s latest independently released album, Music, was recorded at Hacienda Records in Corpus Christi, and has since been gaining more regional and national attention for the band and their music.Reckless energy and a deep love for the lost art of original songwriting drive all of PHILIA's live performances. Jeremy Gifford is the main songwriter and lead vocalist of PHILIA. Gifford's songs range from warm joyful celebrations to fierce and brooding lamentations on love, hate, trust, desire, and everything in-between. Gifford is one of only two guitarists in the band that intertwine and overlap rhythms, as well as chordal harmonies. Loring Baker brings her guitar, songs, voice, and unique musical style to PHILIA, enhancing the group’s sound with her one-of-a-kind leads and chordal arrangements. Loring writes on many songs, and adds a backing feminine voice to the band’s sound. Loring has a raw rock 'n roll guitar playing style that embraces the roots of the songs and adds sheer originality. Daniel Walker also contributes to songwriting as well as helps with arrangements and adding backup vocals. His soulful bass lines bridge the gap between rhythm and melody by defining chords and supporting a variety of time changes. The newest addition to PHILIA is Philip Woodward on drums. Woodward lays down the Big Beat while dancing with his Hard Grooves. Phil also brings a bit heavier bottom, rounding out PHILIA's sound.PHILIA is a Greek word meaning friendship and brotherly love. Jeremy Gifford of PHILIA comments, “This is true for the band as well, but we define PHILIA as a sickness and a true disease that can only be cured by writing, playing, and performing live music together releasing our hearts, minds, and energy to provoke thoughts and feel the reactions from our audience.”The band plans extensive touring through the summer to support their latest release, Music, and continues to write and develop new music.
