Artist description DJ KING D DJ/Producer DJ King D. was born and raised on the South side of Chicago. According to his grandmother at the ripe age of two he started playing records from Motown and stax. At the age of sixteen was when he really got bit by the disk jockeying bug and got interested in mixing disco and the new fledging Chicago house sound modeling his style after the likes of the legendary “WBMX Hot Mix Five”. DJ King D’s passion for mixing music leads him to start mixing using a belt drive turntable and a boom box. In an effort to purchase Technics 1200’s he start doing house parties in the neighborhood, high school dances and gained local notoriety as the DJ to hire for a your party to be rockin’. He took his talent on to college to perform and supplement his income and was the DJ for various Greek organizations and clubs on campus. Once DJ King D felt he had perfected his skills, he moved on to compose tracks for dance and hip hop which became the next level to achieve for DJ’s going into the 21st century. This was one of the most smartest he made in his career of music because now it is the standard for DJ’s to produce music, it shows versatility and flexibility of an artist. This is one the things that King D has always wanted to represent to his audiences, his versatility and flexibility in his mixing. In 1991, DJ King D. decided to start a record label named Struggle Entertainment, which would mainly consist of producing dance and hip-hop tracks for artist who wanted to break into the record business. Struggle Entertainment is still in business today producing and providing tracks for singers, rappers, jingles and all other mediums needing music. DJ King D. spinning style is hot mixing house, old school, soul, funk, r&b, progressive house, deep house, and hip hop. He also produces these styles of music when composing his own tracks. The equipment he utilizes to create magic on the dance floor is two Technics SL 1200, Next Mixer, two American DJ cd players, Akai MPC 2000 XL, Roland XP50 Keyboard, Roland MC 303 groove box, Roland VS 1680 and Cool Edit software.
