Press Reviews
World Tipped Blue The painful void left by bliss/noise rockers My Bloody Valentine has left many poor souls (this reviewer included) dreary and mopey. Good news, kids! The proverbial torch has been passed to San Francisco's Loomer and though there isn't a replacement for Kevin Shields, there certainly is a wonderful stand-in for Bilinda Butcher. Lynda Mandolyn is the centerpiece of this three-piece combo with her lush vocal melodies and vivid soundscapes. Backed by Hugh Caley and Serge Vladimiroff, Lynda is able to shine in every song. Though the opening two tracks (World Tipped Blue and Leave This World) are the most commercially accessible, I found myself drawn to the aqua colouring of the two songs with the longest titles (I Don't Know What You Want From Me and Baby Murder Crazy Mother Suicide). I'm constantly annoyed at the seemingly endless supply of millionaire, cookie cutter bands that cater to the lowest common denominator. Loomer puts out music that drowns the listener in its own spirit and a price tag cannot be put on that. This is music that will be in heavy rotation in the Thornhill collection for years to come.
