Press Reviews
(The Noise/December 1998/issue#187/by Mick Emmett) "I found myself getting drawn in by the simple yet catchy rhythms played in fresh, different ways. It took a couple listens to really appreciate these songs, but they kind of stick in your head like a cool dream that you had just before waking up. Motoko Kawasaki's vocals have a unique way of wrapping themselves around a lyric and letting it drift into your head like a good Portishead song. Even the two songs sung in Japanese (at least I think it's Japanese, but how the hell would I know)--"Tenki" and "Warukunai" are easy to listen to. My clear favorite is the lush "Warukunai" with Kawasaki's lilting vocals floating over Scott Benoit's hypnotic guitar strumming. Don't be surprised if you find your head unintentionally bobbing to one of these offbeat, but fun, selections." |
