Press Reviews This time around I decided to download a couple of hits on the MP3.com charts. Caution Tape and 13 Stories have been at the top for quite a while and I really shouldn't ignore them just because they're successful. At first "Enigma" had me wondering how, as their MP3.com bio states, "University Students" could come up with such a retro-psychedelic sound. Where did these young fellas influences come from? They couldn't have heard the 13th Floor Elevators, could they? But then I noticed that they are from New Zealand! The land of the quirky guitar and infectious melody! I have been a fan of a couple of Kiwi bands for quite a while- I have all of the Bats stuff, and while Caution Tape don't sound at all like the Bats, they do possess a similar haunting, hypnotic style. With a slightly flanged guitar strumming over heavily reverbed vocals, "Enigma" ebbs and flows into a pleasant and slightly transparent 2.5 minutes of music that is nearly impossible to categorize. This might have more impact in the context of an entire album.
