NEW! The absolutely wonderful Spanish pianist,
Of all the music written for the piano, Chopin's remains perhaps them most opulent as well as the most endearing. Availing
himself of the music of his native Poland, and the strains of his Slavic roots, he reinvented bel canto singing in
another form: as the provenance of the piano. The Chopin interpreter who fails to recognize this, and to cultivate an intimate
knowledge of the voice, of baroque, classical and early romantic era opera, and of bel canto itself will never fathom the
subtleties of affective inflection which Chopin invests so powerfully in every note. Here pianist JOHN BELL YOUNG offers
works of this great composer. These performances were recorded in concert between 1970 and 1996. Please note that
there are 2 performances of the B minor Sonata, from 1978 and 1979. While the one recorded in China has better sound,
and was performed on a modern Steinway, the performance in Garden City is unusual in that is was performed on an 1886 Chickering concert grand. The sonority of that
magnificent instrument is closer to the Pleyels and Erards favored by Chopin himself.
