In today’s hip hop market, where an abundance of individualism and materialism exists, many hip hoppers seem to be thriving. However, we believe the success of the Cristal popping, diamond consuming hip hopper will be short lived. Album sales are directly linked to the preferences of consumers in the marketplace. Over the past five years, the average American consumer has been experiencing relatively prosperous financial times. Thus, creating a preference for music based on partying, dancing, and consumption. However, as the economy begins to slow down (and it will), consumers will begin to become more selective. Music based on addressing problems and providing solutions will sustain a niche in the hip hop marketplace. Proclamations of what an individual owns will become less pertinent than what an individual can provide. We attempt to provide insight into our past and our vision of the future.
