The song appeared to Allen as she was about to leave on a vacation in 1992. "I just started hearing the melody and chords in my head, so I made song scribblings on a piece of paper. When I returned home and saw the paper, the song came back to me, very quickly in fact, and so I decided it was worth putting down." Wan and evocative, the song occupies that mid-ground between jazz and cabaret as it takes a different route than the usual love song.
