Manjiri KelkarBorn in traditional music gharana. Father, Anand Asanare, is a well-known tabala artist. Started with "Katthak" at the age of six, received many prizes in various dance competitions. From the age of ten to sixteen took basic lessons in the classical vocal music under guidance of Pt. C.T. Mhaiskar, Sangli (Maharastra). Since 1988 till to date, taking her "Talim" under guidance of Pt. M.S.Kanetkar - a well known disciple and Gandabandha shagird of late Ustad BhurjikhanSaheb and retired station director of All India Radio. Since her guruji had very close association with such great musicians as Master Krishnarao, Bal Gandharva, Pt. Gajananbua Joshi, Smt. Begam akhatar, there has been a definite impact of all these styles in the conceptions and presentation of her vocal recital. Her achivements include a First prize at A.I.R. music competition in both classical and light classical vocal music; Music Scholarship awarded for two years i.e. between 1991-1993 by Central Govt., Ministry of Human Resource and Development; Selected for "Late Kesarbai Kerkar" scholarship by N.C.P.A. & P.L. Deshpande foundation, Mumbai for the year 1994 and the "Young Performing artist of the Year 1994" by N.C.P.A., Mumbai. Given fullest length of performances at various conferences and Mahifils held at Bhopal, Gwalior, Baroda, Culcutta, Panjim, Pune, Mumbai, Nasik and Amaravati etc. Some of the prestigious performances are : The 41st Sawai Gandharva Music Festival-1993 held at pune. "Megh- Malhar 94 Samaroha", organized by Neheru center, Mumbai. "Jaipur samaroha 1995" at Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal. "ITC sangeet samaroha 1995", Culcutta. "Pt. Paluskar Samaroha 1997", Gwalior. "Tansen sangeet Samaroha 1998", Gwalior. "Basant Bahar 1999", Neheru center, Mumbai. "Shankarlal Festival, 2000", Delhi. "Mallikarjun Mansoor Punyatithi samaroha, 2000", Dharwad. Manjiri is an approved high-grade artist of All India Radio for classical vocal music.
