Baritone José Bernardo Rubio has just completed his second year of studies at the University of Washington. He is a student of Julian Patrick and is working towards a BA/BM degree in Vocal Performance. His University of Washington opera roles consist of Kruscina in The Bartered Bride, Maestro Spinelloccio in Gianni Schicchi, a servant in Il Matrimonio Segreto, and scenes from Don Giovanni as the title character with the opera workshop theatre. Future rolls include Judge Turpin in the Sondheim musical Sweeney Todd, which will be presented by the UW drama department this fall. He has been asked to perform repeatedly in and around the University community in events such as the opening day of the Legislative Session in Olympia, WA, the Inaugural Recognition Gala at Suzzallo Library, the Archbishop Desmond Tutu Convocation, and the One Year Commemorative Gathering on September 11, 2002
