Nice Monster achieves sublime melody and rich harmony in the context of rhythmically complex musical compositions. After years of accomplished playing with amplified bands in the midwestern U.S., east coast, and southern California, the members of Nice Monster decided to implement a stripped-down approach to writing and performing, relying on acoustic guitars and harmonized vocals as the base for their music.

Before meeting in Sacramento and forming Nice Monster, Matthew (guitars and vocals) and Jason (guitar) performed in rock-based ensembles throughout the midwestern United States and southern California, including extended stints in Chicago and Los Angeles. Heather (vocals) performed with, and directed choral groups, performed with amplified bands, and won high honors in classical piano competitions in the southeastern U.S. Nice Monster performs both unconventional and straightforward rock, combining a variety of musical influences. Jason studied jazz, ragtime, and classical guitar with accomplished players from Los Angeles, Santa Fe, and Tulsa. Matthew composes guitar, bass, drums, piano, and harmonized vocals specializing in jazz/rock fusion, funk, pop, folk, math rock, and other indefinable genres.

Heather trained as a vocalist and classical pianist. Her voice and poetic lyrics characterize Nice Monster’s unique blend of musical genres. Nice Monster defines its sound as acoustic-based, melodic music with thoughtful harmony and challenging rhythmic patterns.
