Fugue in A Minor, is based on the formal pattern of the fugue. The main theme is introduced in a minor. The four measure a minor theme is immediately repeated a fifth higher with the counter subject. Then follows an episode of motivic sequencing and modulation, which leads to the third statement of the main theme. At this point, there is a short development section with fragmentation and sequencing based on ideas from both the main theme as well as the counter subject. The theme returns one last time, augmented in full form, which ends the piece. |
