The Thelonius Monk composition done in a funk feel with a composed bass part with the melody to create a question/answer effect. The bridge on the melody also has counter melody with a displaced drum groove to give an illusion of a metric modulation. |

The jazz standard taken out of it's usual straight ahead feel and done with a funk groove reminiscent of David Garabaldi's(Tower of Power) the Oakland Stroke. The bridge although still adheres to the traditional swing formula providing a nice release between sections. |

A re-working of the classic standard in a modal sense abandoning the chord changes but staying true to the melody.
The feel comes out of a Moroccan vibe with a taste of reggae. The bridge however does adhere to the chord changes but abandon's the melody and goes by in triple time. This form is kept through out as in standard tradition for soloing with a vamp out after the melody out. This features an amazing vocal performance by Jimi Tunnel. |

Joe Farrell's original blues(done originally as a swinging straight ahead groove)heard here as a swung type rock feel with the Bass & Sax using effects, creating a somewhat sci-fi vibe(hence the title). The qwirky 3/4 bar in the turnaround adds a different demention as well from the original. |

This is the one original piece on this conceptual CD of arrangements to other tunes. This is a 12 tone sort of a-tonal piece in an odd meter. The A section being a 3 bar figure of 4/4,7/8,4/4.The B section in a multi-layer of 13( 13/4 under 2 bars of 13/8)for those who like to keep score.Ultimately it should just feel and sound good without your ruler and protractor. |

If the category World Beat Jazz existed this would be listed as such. The main groove is based off an African(Senegal)dance known as Sabar.Though usually done in 4/4(or 6/8 depending on how you count or feel it) this is in 7/4 and is inspired by much of the great West African music, such as, Salif Keita. |

This Keith Jarrett composition was originally recorded as a quartet piece. Here it's done in a trio performance without any chordal instruments for there were no specific chords really written for the peice. This is a composed melody with free open improvisational sections. There's been a few conceptual changes made to the feel and the arrangement which were not in the original giving it our own twist. |

This Miles Davis composition I added as a bonus track to my CD although this was previously recorded on a hard to find CD which I contributed to sometime ago(Cheryl Pyle-"Dalle Alle").I thought it was a special performance that I hoped others might have a chance to hear.It also works as a nice closer to the end of the CD. |
