Originally formed in 1998, Lower Unit started playing music with one goal in mind, to change the music industry forever. After being together for 3 months Lower Unit recorded a 5-song demo entitled Outkasts. At the time this was one of the most influential cds in the local music scene, containing a mixture of all styles of music, rap, rock, ska, and jazz, and set the standard for many new up and coming bands. Even though they were still young, the demo sold over 2000 copies in the mid-South within a very short time.
After experiencing a few line up changes, Lower Unit took some time off to gather their thoughts and write new material.
The end result is a Cd whose title alone, Evolution is the Key, speaks volumes.
This extraordinary combination of aggression is countered by beautiful melodies and passionate vocals, provided by vocalist (Ryan Agee). This is propelled even further by the tight, sinuously soulful rhythms from bassist (Wesley Kemp),
and drummer (Dale Leaver), which have also become a trademark of this versatile band. Compiled by ground breaking guitar work by (Kevin Smith) and (Eric Leaver), that showcases the band's depth with heart shattering, poignant expressions of sadness that reach an emotional level rarely heard these days in the heavy rock field.
With this album Lower Unit redefines both themselves and their brand of hard rock, taking their anger and turning it into something that is at once heavy and beautiful.
