a song that wears its cable influences on its sleeve, this was initially rejected as being too simplistic and melodic. after messing about with the end and throwing in plenty of stop/start bits it was deemed acceptably angular by the band. lyrically, its concerned with mountain climbing and ambition. |

another example of the favoured motif of melodic verses/shouty choruses, this was the result of writing a melodic verse based on major 7th chords, deciding it was too nice then welding on a slab-of-noise type chorus to redeem it. compromise is our watchword. a favourite of mine because of the space in the verses, something we dont have enough of. end reminds me of braid, a band we should rip off more |

more an exercise in dynamics than a proper song, still like the quiet bit at the end though, another rare use of space in a 1 inch V song, lyrically inspired by watching fight club too many times (the title being a quote from the film) and the thixotropic effects of eutectic solder paste. we never seemed to be able to get feel of the chorus quite right for ages, hence the line 'we cannot get the groove'. |
