Rick Melick’s time has come.
After years of keyboard duties as a side man to
many of Australia’s great rock and rhythm & blues
acts he is stepping out front to bring his own
fresh and unique approach to funk and soul music.
Rick started his professional career with Andy Gibb
and has been touring Australia and the world ever
since. Among the many gigs in a career that spans
two decades you can include Jeff ‘Skunk’ Baxter,
(Steely Dan & Doobie Bros.) Dragon, Jon Stevens,
Stevie Wright, Marc Hunter, Glenn Shorrock, Brian
Cadd, Doug Parkinson and Jimmy Little.
Internationally he has shared the stage with Queen,
Roxy Music, Brian Ferry, B.B. King, Chicago, ZZ Top,
The Neville Brothers, Tony Joe White, Ben Harper,
Meatloaf and Mick Fleetwood and of course Jimmy Barnes.
Although Rick has played on over 25 CD’s he has a
very special place in his heart for his ongoing
professional relationship with the late John Denver
which culminated in the piano and orchestra recording
of the international hit single ‘For You’.
As well as playing a selection from his CD
‘stereoricardo’ Rick has chosen a repertoire for
his band which draws on the world’s greatest
modern artists such as The Rolling Stones,
Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, Bob Marley, Boz Scaggs,
Otis Redding, The Neville Bros., B. B. King, U2,
Tim Buckley, CSNY, Sting, Jon Cleary, Tony Joe White
and Ben Harper and plays them in a unique and
inspiring way to ensure a truly memorable gig.
With a track record like this it is not unreasonable
for Rick to be able to call upon a talent bank of
musicians of exceptional ability to make The Rick Melick
Band one of the most exciting and potent blends
of R’n’B, soul and funk music you will ever hear.
So fresh you can taste it………
