Welcome to the site of Miren Aranburu
(basque singer)
Press comments
"The Basque language has rarely, if ever, been used in this
context. Intricate Jazz-Funk grooves back up fluttery female vocals,
singing in Basque. The vocal style floats somewhere between jazz
singing and freestyle rapping. Delicate, romantic jazz ballads
feature bass clarinet and vocals, both of which tug at the heart
strings and induce wild flights of fancy. The band revels in sensuous
mid-tempo swing and seductive, electric Bossa Nova. The vocalist's
smooth, vibrato-less alto recalls Astrud Gilberto, while the
saxophone's subtle romanticisms evoke classic Getz. Anyone who
doesn't understand Basque will find the vocals deliciously exotic;
anyone who does will find subject matter ranging from poetic romance
to fervent anti-militarism. And the music's just pure, hedonistic
pleasure."
