Metal, punk, and gothic music all share common ground, the fact that they all have raw elements to each style of music. Opaque shares these qualities in their music. James and Suhail both display powerful, ripping low tuned guitar riffs, and Kalani pounding the rhythmic percussion; combined with Anthony's low end bass, thumping your mind until you can't take anymore. Finally employing Chris on vocals for an assault on your ears both physically and emotionally, ranging from heart pounding screams to low hushed singing. All those elements combined with the raw power of metal fused together with melodic choruses that will throw you into a trance. These five guys from the San Bernardino area all grew up loving music, whether it was playing it or just listening to it. The Opaque has only been around since the middle of 2001, but since then have stirred the attention of other local bands and fans alike. With the raw display of their powerful performances, they plan on focusing on the fans, and going beyond the dreary local Inland Empire scene.
Influences range from Radiohead all the way up to metal gods like Slayer. In the days of drab everyday boring music the Opaque goes beyond the cliche of following in the footsteps of other bands; preferring to do something fresh and unique that will keep their fans coming back for more. Screaming in music nowadays is not a new thing, however; there is a certain beauty to their loud and sometimes abrupt style of metal. These day's bands try to do things different by experimentation with sound and fusion. Opaque does not follow any certain "trend" or "grouping", even though each band member has different influences. "We play what we would like to hear out there on the streets" street credibility is what the band wants more than anything, because when it comes down to it, that's where it counts the most. The thing that is so pure about Opaque is that we just want to play and be heard by many. If a record deal happens to fall into our laps, we would rather refuse it now and save it for later. We feel that there is more work to do before we even start thinking about a recording contract. Hard work is what we are all about, meeting new people at shows, seeing the crowds' reaction at every show, making new fans everywhere, that's what it’s all about. These things matter most to us. "It is a dream to play music that you honestly love, and love playing." Lyrics are written about love, loss, hate, and even politics. Politics seem to play a big part in Chris's lyrical attack on world and local issues. "We are not a political band, nor do we even try to be, we just pick out all the injustice everywhere we live."
