If you relate best to performers whose appeal lies in brave, yet serene, delivery and sonic texturing that is subtle rather than flash, Lisa Kane warrants a high place on your mustsee/ must-hear list. —T.Alexander, Pulse of the Twin Cities. Today that opportunity is presenting itself on a national level.
1997 saw the end of Kane's endeavors as a funk fusion guitarist in the well followed, well rehearsed Minneapolis punk band Zelpha Trippe. Letting go of the luxuries of her effects processor, Lisa relied on her education in music theory and spent the next few years honing her performance skills locally and regionally from coffeehouses and house concerts to bars and charity events. Song Schools have allowed for a deeper examination of creativity along side Patty Larkin, Cliff Eberhardt, Ellis Paul and Maggie Simpson.
Kane released her debut album Old Strings & All in 1999. Three songs from that disc were selected for a John Ervin film The Vixen Highway. Her follow up release Sooner... than later received an Independent Folk Release 2001 award with Spectator Magazine and a feature story on the Minnesota Public Radio Round Up program. Both releases have landed her performances at The Minnesota Music Awards and the title of Twin Cities Favorite Female Performer with The Minnesota Women's Press in January of 2002. She has shared stages with Vance Gilbert, Lynn Miles, Grant Hart (Husker Du), Vince Welnick (Grateful Dead), Devon Evan (Bob Marley and the Wailers), and Renee Austin.
Lisa Kane released her third independent full length CD Surroundings in June of this year. Her latest endeavor features piano, saxophone, violin, percussion, mandolin, banjo and drums. It is currently being reviewed by major publications world-wide.
