Mike Boston
Boston, a twenty-something year old native of Dorchester/Roxbury areas of
"Da Bean", emerged from prison in 1998 after serving 2 ? years
behind the wall for committing violent crime. Mike found his calling in
hip-hop first as a D.J. and then in prison transformed his ability of
expression through rhyming. The enormous response from the overcrowded
jail is what led Boston to believe he had something to say that the people
wanted and needed to hear. He's deeply involved in the national service
movement and through civic engagement Mike became a role model for young
people. Since 1999 he has been spokesperson for a non-profit organization
from their sites in New York City to Sowato, South Africa where he
accompanied President Bill Clinton and President Nelson Mandela on a
fact-finding mission.
The Music
Boston has been freestylin' and performing since
the eighties! He honed his skills in the belly of the beast and at first
chance, started a studio where young people can hear and create powerful
messages through hip-hop. "We've got to get in a position to give
kids a chance to express themselves in more creative ways. Art is so
important for that."
Boston recently completed his debut album "Baptizm
by Fire" and will be touring this summer.
