The upcoming stateside arrival of The D4, hailing from Auckland City, New Zealand, marks Australasia's opportunity to show the revivalist garage-rockers of today how it's really done. Picking up where fellow Aussies Radio Birdman left off, The D4 mixes hedonism with heroic rock-n-roll on their debut full-length, 6Twenty - a non-stop explosion of sweat and soul. If the Hives favored skinny Levi's to skinny ties, then maybe you could compare them to The D4. What really sets The D4 apart is the fact that their down-n-dirty, amped-up sleaze-jams rock with a reckless abandon and unique melodic sophistication. 6Twenty exists as a recorded explosion of the boys' bottled-up energy. The D4 formed five years ago when singer/guitarist Jimmy Christmas met singer/guitarist Dion at an Auckland party. After the two hit it off, they later recruited bassist, Vaughan and drummer, Beaver to build their tight and fast live show machine. Given the D4's outrageous, rollicking live performance, they've toured with the likes of The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Fu Manchu, and more. Check out the D4 Media Player! |
