Shacker is an innovative three-piece power-pop rock band hailing from Crete, Nebraska. However, do not let the obscurity of Crete, Nebraska mislead you. Granted, it is not Liverpool or Orange County, but look at it as a metaphor for the band’s sound – sparse and relaxed, but sagacious and contagious. Crete is home to Doane College where these boys befriended each other and are continuing their education in the liberal arts.
In the fall of 2001, Cory Kibler (vocals & guitars) and Jaimie Tucci (bass) decided to form, what would later be know as, Shacker. Being roommates, Kibler and Tucci became a two-headed monster, spending their free-time writing and composing songs. Anxious to rock these songs, this two-headed melodic-crazed monster hunted down and gobbled up drummer, C. Howie Howard. This trio proved to be a perfect fit as it fused their passion for music, individuality, and originality together in an easy to swallow capsule.
Shacker just finished recording their debut CD, Pardon My Pretension, But Isn’t It Blackbeard’s Birthday? The expected release date is mid-March.
Pardon My Pretension, But Isn’t It Blackbeard’s Birthday? is the result of three ambitious and resourceful musicians with each of them exploring the depths of their creativity as well as their instruments. Kibler delivers novel guitar licks (“Whatever You Want”) and catchy riffs (“Fully O.K?”) while his stunning vocal melodies are both beautiful (“Sophia”) and eerie (“I’m Over It”). It might be more appropriate to call the rhythm section of Shacker the expressionist section or even the experimental section. With Tucci’s expressive bass lines he gives dimension (“Autumn…”) and texture (“I’m Over It”) to each individual song, freeing Howard to create ethereally attractive beats (“Whatever You Want”) as well as attention-demanding rhythms (“Love Song”).
Shacker has assembled 12 solid, infectious pop-rock songs that beg to be heard and promise not to disappoint.
