Eduardo Paz Carlson, born November 6, 1958 in Montevideo, Uruguay, began to study music in his adolescence. He was the pupil of Eduardo Mateo and Carlos Pellegrino. In 1975 he began to compose electroacoustic music. However, due to the technology limitations during this period his works could not be completely executed.
The artist explains: "the computer allowed me to assemble all of my recordings and compositions created during twenty years and record them, put the finishing touches to them, mix one with the other and complete all in a marvelous sonorous chaos... it is similar to playing a game for me..." During the last three years Eduardo Paz Carlson has edited 52 CDs (more than 100 works) which he named "new electroacoustic music" or "technoconcrete music ". His compositions are highlighted by a great formal liberty which touches of impertinence, a spicy sense of humor, and at the same time, a profound mystic spirit. Without doubt "an unusual mixture of sounds and marvelous palette of sensations, for moments disturbing and for others serene", according to Alejandro Espina, from the newspaper El Observador of Montevideo, Uruguay. Paz Carlson's compositions, who is also a poet, (see, Obras Completas 1975-2002, ISBN:9974-39-368-X, edicion del autor) are difficult to define.
References of contemporary music exist, ambient and electronic from the 50's (Varese) the 60's, (Stockhausen) and the 70's (the progressive rock, Frank Zappa, Tangerine Dream, Can, Brian Eno, etc).
The secret sonorous presence of musicians such as Satie, Milhaud, Berio, and even deep sparkles of Melchite Sacred Chants is perceived in his pieces.
The composer affirms: "this music fills my heart with happiness... it is as if a sonorous magma of light goes through me and hammers at my heart with out wounding it...."
