This is an Albert Collins tune, but true
to form, Johnny eludes the slavish imitation, opting to come up with something a little different, while maintaining enough of the original idea to keep it recognizable. With "Collin's Mix," Johnny and the band add a slab of Swing (or is swagger) to the tune. Johnny is handling lead guitar, Sandy Greens is on rhythm guitar, former Red Devil Paul "the kid" Size is on bass, and Johnny's brother Jay on drums. This was recorded live (in 1994 at Club Dada in Dallas), on two rather inexpensive cassette decks, and this is how it sounds straight from one of those tapes, dumped over to a disc, with no EQ or anything done to it. It should sound even better once we get it mastered, by the guys who really know what they're doing. BTW, the one that is being mastered is the one from the other cassette deck, and when I get it back I'll add it to this page. I like it much better, a little darker with slightly punchier bass, and without any of that snare washout I hear on this one. chuck, dallas blues society records |
