Emerging from the harsh, blue-collar-beer-drinking Steel City
of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Benchwarmer formed in the fall of 2001.
Inspired by such greats as the Pixies, Bad Religion, and Man or Astroman?,
the group sets forth hook-laden guitar parts and intricate bass lines that
often stray from one another, creating their own distinct melodies.
Combined with downright brutal drums, they explode from supercharged
surf-punk to dance-able Clash-esque rock.
Their live show is an intense, take-no-prisoners massive attack
that demands the audiences’ full attention with no compromises.
Benchwarmer have been compared to Fugazi, Gang of Four, the Police,
the Minutemen, and others. Their eclectic style and unpredictable
transitions have been likened to "What Mission of Burma would sound
like today if they had stayed together."
Benchwarmer has steadily been making a name for themselves,
playing punk and art rock circuits throughout Pennsylvania and Ohio.
Their early shows were well received, and their demo,
Broken Glass and Fish Gravel, sold faster than copies
could be made. It wasn’t long before the trio began opening
for national acts, including New York’s Crimson Sweet, indie giants
Trans Am, and Har Mar Superstar (who was named to Rolling Stones’
best new artists of 2002).This fall they set their sights on the
East coast, touring in support of their self-titled full-length
debut.
See you at the next show.
