Es un desierto circular el mundo, el cielo esta cerrado y el infierno vacio. --- Octavio Paz
(This world is a desert that is a circle, heaven is closed and hell is empty.)
The story so far.
When the chemistry is right, don't bother checking the equation. If 2001 scattered the mist, then 2002 brought the rainstorm. Black Waltz was formed out of the ashes of nothing. Whatever existed for each member, prior to its bastard inception, was buried and forgotten. Sure, the inspiration and experience was there, but to build something new, one must destroy the mud hovels first.
What's in a name? What's in a label? Black Waltz killed their idols and moved back to square one. The "HOW TO" book was waved in their faces and they happily pushed it away.
Black Waltz marches to its own drummer, which is ironic because they don't have one.
Chris wanted to sing. Scarlet wanted to play the guitar. Frederick F. wanted to stir up trouble.
Sometimes inky classified ads can result in miracles. This wasn't one of those times. In a flurry of broken guitar strings, crumpled lyric sheets and crashing computer programs, songs and arrangements began to take form. And they liked what they heard.
Stranger's ears liked what they heard as well.
Old sources. New sources. Dark sources. Call it Goth. Call it death rock. Call it retro.
Call it different…

Of all of Black Waltz's songs, Clockwork is most likely to cross music boundarie lines. While having a decidedly upbeat and bouncy feel to the music, the lyrics describe a repetative and pointless existence. |
