Seven people ask, “How can you write a song when you’re recording it?” Well, you can’t. But we can. The way we got those lyrics that stunned a nation and made us the superstars we are today is rather unconventional, but highly successful. While D.W.D. and Joe Bastard wailed away on their guitars and Bobby J. Scruples, esq. rocked out on bass, Bille bellowed out some unintelligible, spontaneous, and probably not well thought out words into the microphone. After the original recording, Billy and Scruples wrote down what the lyrics sounded like, using a lot of imagination, put them into a semi-logical order, and brought them back into the recording booth in Friction Without Heat Studios.
