This clever piece for piano-four-hands imitates the chirping sound of katydids in the forest. Amy Beach, the first American woman to have a symphonic work performed by an orchestra, was very interested in the sounds of nature. As a young girl with perfect pitch, she assisted ornitholigists of her time in recording bird songs. Later she wrote several pieces based on authentic bird songs. |
